Katavi region authorities reiterate commitment to promote ICH

Katavi regional authorities have reiterated their commitment to support TAMCODE and the media to promote the intangible cultural heritage in the region to enhance employment opportunities for women and youth.

 Carol Stephen who is Katavi Regional Sports, Cultural and Youth Officer made the call in Mpanda on November 6, 2024, at the capacity building workshop to community radio journalists and digital platforms in the region.

Conducted by the Tanzania Media for Community Development under the UNESCO- Alwaleed Philanthropies project, the session is meant to empower community radio journalists to use their stations and digital platforms to promote the intangible cultural heritage to enhance employment opportunities for youth and women in the region.

Representing the Mpanda District Commissioner, Leah Yasini Gawaza called Community radio journalists in Katavi region to publicize stories on intangible cultural heritage as doing so will attract investors and thus   foster economic opportunities for youth and women. 

The two-day activity was conducted by the Tanzania Media for Community Development through the UNESCO- Alwaleed Philanthropies project.

The project is meant to empower community radio journalists to use their radio stations and digital platforms to promote intangible cultural heritage to enhance employment opportunities for youth and women in Katavi region.

The session brought together community radio journalists in the Katavi region, digital platforms as well as artists from the University of Dodoma.

Katavi region is located in the south west of Tanzania about 900 Km from Dar es Salaam, former capital and current commercial hub of Tanzania and is among the top five in terms of food production in Tanzania.
