The MKUKI coalition is driving real change in Tanzania by uniting civil society organizations, activists, and community leaders to fight gender‑based violence (GBV).
Through joint advocacy and coordination, the coalition has influenced political parties to establish gender desks, ensured women leaders are included in council meetings, and strengthened accountability in GBV response. Regional branches in Kigoma, Shinyanga, Morogoro, Pemba, Unguja, Pwani, and Singida are now working together to raise awareness and act on emerging challenges.
As a member, Tanzania Media for Community Development (TAMCODE) has played a key role in documenting community experiences and amplifying survivor voices, ensuring coalition advocacy is visible and evidence‑based.
Key impacts include:
- Greater visibility of GBV issues through newsletters, media, and social platforms.
- Stronger coordination via zonal committees and grassroots caravans.
- Expanded membership, growing from 17 to nearly 200 organizations united under one agenda.
MKUKI continues to prove that collaboration is the strongest tool for protecting communities and advancing gender equality
