The Tanzania Media for Community Development (TAMCODE) has called upon Mwanza Press Club to establish a consultancy on media-related issues to emancipate its members from financial constraints.
TAMCODE Executive Director Rose Mwalongo made the call on January 14, during an official meeting with the Mwanza Press Club Chairperson Edwin Soko.
She said scribes are endowed with so many attributes which if well utilized, could bring financial sustainability.
“Journalists have enchanting voices which can be utilized to moderate events, engage in voice overs and documentaries for various entities and not to mention photographers who can also engage in commercial assignments for corporate and social events. People will be comfortable knowing that a pro is handling their visibility,” said Rose.
Other assignments which scribes are capable of doing according to the ED are rapporteur services, as well as translations of documents, assignments which have proven to bring a lucrative income.
For his part, Edwin Soko who is the Mwanza Press Club Chairperson mentioned some of the achievements within the Press Club as the signing of an MOU with the NHIF for its members are now fully covered with health insurance.
Other success stories are formation of a joint task force with the police force in the region where scribes in the region are now in harmony with the law enforcing organ, a move he said had been made possible through funding from the International Media Support.
