Mary Hospicia Kafyome has been teaching mass communication subjects particularly public relations for more than 10 years from reputable universities in Tanzania namely St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT), TUDARCo and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) of the University of Dar es Salaam. She is currently a PhD candidate in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Dar es Salaam. She is a member of several media organizations namely Tanzania Media Women Association (TAMWA), Media Institute of Eastern Africa-Tanzania Chapter (MISA-TAN) and Public Relations Society of Tanzania (PRST).
In November, 2021, Ms. Kafyome was elected the Vice President of PRST. She also heads the Gender and Public Relations and Advertising Units of TUDARCo. As an academician, Ms. Kafyome has undertaken training and research consultancies for various institutions that is Gender Links, MISA TAN, TAMWA, PRST, Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), Women Aid and Criminal Justice organization (WACJ), Eastern Africa Sub-Regional Support Initiative (EASSI), UNESCO and SIKIKA.
Ms. Kafyome received her education at Rugambwa Girls Secondary School, and then went to St. Augustine University of Tanzania where she acquired her Advanced Diploma in Journalism and Masters Degree in Mass Communication. She also attained her Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Dar es Salaam. She has worked with Kolping Society of Tanzania and Kiongozi Newspaper as the public relations officer and managing editor respectively. She also mentored several journalists on gender reporting. Ms. Kafyome possesses several skills specifically public speaking, writing, event moderation, and rapporteuring.
