YOGE to Convene a Region Policy Summit on Inclusive Freshwater Governance in Ruvuma, Tanzania”
The Youth Environmental Justice and Gender Equality (YOGE), with support from IUCNs BRIDGE
Women Leadership Grants, will on June 25 th , 2026 convene a one‑day Region Policy
Summit on Inclusive Water Governance in Ruvuma Basin, Tanzania.
The objective of the summit is to come up with policies and guidelines to enhance
the meaningful participation of women, youth and marginalized groups in
preservation of water resources as well as forest conservation along the Ruvuma
basin in Tanzania.
The summit slated for Songea, Ruvuma Tanzania; is expected to bring
together policy makers, basin authorities, and community
representatives to foster dialogue and collaboration, with a special
focus being to enhance the meaningful participation of women, youth,
and marginalized groups in water‑related decision‑making structures.
The initiative falls under the “Inclusive Freshwater Governance for
Sustainable Communities in the Ruvuma Basin – Voices for Water”, a
project supported by the IUCN through its BRIDGE (Building River
Dialogue and Governance) Programme.
Key implementing partners in this initiative include Tanzania Media for
Community Development (TAMCODE), Ruvuma Southern and Coastal Water
Basin Board, Office of the Regional Commissioner of Ruvuma, Mbinga Town
Council and Songea Municipal Council in the Ruvuma Region.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)s Building River Dialogue and
Governance (BRIDGE) Women Leadership Grants support women-led and women-focused
initiatives that strengthen leadership in freshwater governance and ecosystem restoration. The
grants enhance the capacity of women and their organizations to lead actions that benefit
